I Have No Idea
The philosophy of Ubuntu was something
unknown to me until Sunday's sermon. Our visiting priest brought up
this somewhat difficult-to-describe concept in explaining how we
should strive to be; the ideal for us as people living together in
society. Ubuntu is the idea that we look out for each other, take
care of each other. We're happy when others succeed and feel
lessened when others are hurt. Nelson Mandela describes this
concept as a visitor travelling to a village would be given food
and water without asking. Basically, we are our brother's
keeper.
Archbishop Desmond Tutu gave this definition:
"A person with Ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of
others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, for
he or she has a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that
he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others
are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or
oppressed."
Ubuntu is comforting, and we wanted to share this concept with
others through StoryRhyme.com, our oasis on the internet. Share the
joy! Share Ubuntu!
